Who Should Attend?

Anyone wishing to become a first aider involved in outdoor pursuits including hill walkers, outdoor activity enthusiasts, instructors and professionals working in outdoor environments.

Course Syllabus

• Understand the role and responsibilities of the first aider
• Recording and reporting of accidents and incidents including RIDDOR
• Discussion of specific work related injuries
• Contents of a first aid kit (including preventing cross infection)
• Assessing the situation and acting safely, effectively and promptly in an emergency
• Emergency equipment for use outdoors
• Emergency assistance and evacuation techniques outdoors
• Outdoor scenario training

Administer first aid to a casualty who is/requires:

• Unconscious (including seizure)
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Choking
• Wounded and bleeding
• Suffering from shock
• Appropriate first aid for minor injuries including minor cuts, grazes, bruises, small splinters, minor burns and scalds

Administer first aid to a casualty with:

• Injuries to bones, muscles and joints including suspected spinal injuries
• Head injuries
• Stroke
• Asthma
• Heart Attack including Angina
• Diabetes
• Tick bites / Lyme disease

Assessment & Qualification

Following final assessment, successful learners will receive an Outdoors Emergency First Aid Certificate as well as an HSE approved Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate which is valid for three years.

Other Relevant Course Information

Learners must be physically able to carry out first aid training/scenarios outdoors.

This course satisfies the requirements of relevant outdoors qualifications National Governing Bodies such as MLTS and BCU and fully covers the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus.
